Puppy Training and Socializing Adult Dog Obedience Training
Welcome to the Reading Branch of the British Association for German Shepherd Dogs
Owning a German Shepherd Dog is a responsible decision and one that should not be taken lightly.
German Shepherds grow to be big, strong dogs and will display dominance if allowed to get away with it. They require a firm, consistent and always fair leader to guide them and set them up for success.
German Shepherd training provides the ideal constructive outlet for all of your GSD's energy and focus. Obedience training establishes the boundaries which will help your dog to be a reliable and well respected member of society. GSDs are extremely intelligent dogs and were originally bred in Alsace which is on the border between Germany and France, hence the name Alsatian. The purpose of the breed was to combine intelligence, strength and obedience in order to look after herds of sheep alone against predators.
GSDs first came to Britain after the First World War, when the Germans used them to carry messages along the trenches. After the war, some who were captured were brought back to Britain and were bred from, giving us the wonderful companions we have today.
